SANTA ANA, Calif.
— Black Walnuts Cafe and Grill, located in the historic Santa Ana shopping center, has closed, according to a statement from the Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce.
The business was purchased by the same family that owns the cafe, the Chamber said.
“The owners have been unable to come to terms with the complex challenges of closing the business, as we did with the cafe,” the statement said.
The cafe closed on Tuesday because of its inability to pay rent and due to other financial hardships.
The chain, which is based in the same building as a shopping mall, has been operating in Santa Ana for 40 years.
Its Facebook page has been inundated with complaints from people who say the chain’s staff have treated them poorly.
“I was told they are in the middle of a recession and they need to open their doors for the next year,” a patron told the Santa Clarita Bee.
“We have waited so long and they haven’t done anything to help us.”
